Needing some advice if you want to buy an electric car?

Buy an electric car

The demand for electric vehicles has never been greater, and it’s soon to be growing even more. Tesla is raking in record profits from customers making the switch to a luxury EV, the Volkswagen ID.4 has been named ‘Car of the Year’ 2021, and the ban to stop new diesel and petrol electric vehicles by 2030 has been announced. So you want to buy an electric car? Find out everything that you may need to know as an EV driver and why you should be thinking about making the switch to electric sooner rather than later.

We cover all of the frequently asked questions about electric vehicles below…

KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR

Before we even think about providing you with useful information about buying an electric car, the first step is to decide what sort of car you’re actually looking for. Whether you’re searching for the perfect SUV, the ultimate sports car or something smaller, and even more affordable. It’s great to have an idea of the type of car that will meet your needs.

Electric vehicles require minimal maintenance, are greener for the environment, and are fun to drive, but it can become a minefield if you go in with a blank canvas.

So what should you consider?

Price

Pricing is an important factor, especially when it comes to investing in a new car. Buying an EV from new could set you back, depending on the type of car and model. However, second hand EVs are becoming a popular choice for drivers wanting to make the switch. Drivers could get more for their money when they buy an electric car from established, trusted dealerships, such as us!

Before buying any vehicle, it is important to set a budget, this will restrict the amount of time you spend endlessly scrolling through car dealership websites.

Practicality

What will you be using your new electric vehicle for? Establishing what the EV will actually be used for will display the amount of vehicles that are best for your requirements. Will it be a practical everyday electric car that is used for the commute to work, or picking the children up from school? In that case, second hand EVs such as the BMW i3 or Renault ZOE are more economical and affordable.

If you’re looking for a car that is simply just for show, and something you can enjoy on the weekends, then perhaps a Tesla or an EV such as the Jaguar I-Pace could be something more suiting.

Range

Depending on the practicality of the EV, the range will be another vital factor in the process of buying an electric car. If you’re thinking about switching your everyday internal combustion engine (ICE) car in for something greener, then you’ll want a decent range. Most UK drivers average around 20 miles per day according to NimbleFins, unless you have to make a longer commute to work, or you really do have a busy social life, pre-covid obviously.

All of our used electric vehicles have an average range of around 120 – 230 miles on a full charge. This will come down to the specific model of the vehicle and how you drive it. Essentially drivers could go a whole week without even thinking about charging up their EV, if they buy an electric car that meets their needs.

Now the most important topic, charging…

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED CHARGING?

Since the ban of new diesel and petrol vehicle sales was announced, the UK charging infrastructure has grown rapidly. It is still earlier days though, so we would recommend having a plan in place for charging until electric vehicles become the new norm.

Before making a purchase to buy an electric car, it’s important most EV drivers consider the following:

  • Where will I charge – Will that be at home, work on the road?
  • Will a charger need to be installed?
  • Buying charging accessories
  • Where can I find local charge points?

When it comes to charging it can be a daunting topic for soon-to-be EV drivers, however we have you covered. Check out our previous blog post to find out about all things charging related.

SHOULD I BUY A TESLA?

When electric cars are mentioned, most drivers will immediately think of the major manufacturer, Tesla. Tesla sits above many other EV brands currently on the market, so we can see why it’s hard not to consider them.

So why should you buy a Tesla we hear you ask?

As a market leader in the industry, they have had more years of experience, and their cars are a lot more common and recognisable to EV drivers. Not to mention an excellent charging infrastructure is already in place, exclusively for Tesla cars only.

If you want to buy a Tesla, then fantastic news! We have plenty of second hand Teslas for sale. View our current stock list here.

Despite the sleek and stylish interiors, futuristic technology, and sporty exterior, there’s more to a car than just these particular features.
