In recent EV news, French manufacturer Renault announced they will be temporarily stopping production of the Renault Zoe model due to a shortage of semiconductors and other electronic parts. Why is now the right time to buy an ex-rental Renault Zoe? Why is this particular EV the one to buy for your next car? Find out in our latest blog post.
THE ARRIVAL OF THE ZOE
The production of the Renault Zoe, an electric car model, started in late 2012. The vehicle was first unveiled as a concept car at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. After a few years of development, it went into production and became available for sale to the public in various markets starting in December 2012. The Zoe has since undergone several updates and revisions, with newer models featuring improvements in range and technology.
In June 2019, the latest version of the ZOE was introduced, boasting enhanced performance and increased range. Alongside a revamped interior and an extensive array of cutting-edge features, the question arises: Does this Renault Zoe model beat its contemporary rivals? Let’s take a look!
RENAULT ZOE COMPETITORS
Vauxhall Corsa-e
The Renault Zoe and Vauxhall Corsa-e are both electric vehicles that offer practicality and emission-free driving. However, there are differences between the two:
Design: The Renault Zoe has a distinctive, futuristic design with a compact and aerodynamic shape. The Vauxhall Corsa-e, on the other hand, resembles the traditional Corsa model but with some design modifications to accommodate the electric powertrain.
Range: The range of an electric vehicle is an important factor, and in this regard, the Renault Zoe has an advantage. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the Zoe offered a range of up to 245 miles on a single charge, while the Vauxhall Corsa-e had a slightly lower range of around 209 miles.
Performance: In terms of performance, the Renault Zoe offered different power options, including a more powerful R135 motor variant. The Corsa-e, on the other hand, had a single powertrain option with a lower power output. However, it’s important to note that specific performance figures may vary depending on the model year and trim level.
Interior and Features: Both vehicles provide comfortable interiors and modern features. The Renault Zoe’s interior has been reworked in its latest generation, offering improved quality and updated technology. The Vauxhall Corsa-e also provides a well-equipped cabin with modern amenities and connectivity options.
Peugeot e-208
The Peugeot e-208 was introduced to the EV market in early 2020. Since then it’s also been another popular hatchback for drivers, but will it compare to the Renault Zoe?
Range: The Renault Zoe and Peugeot e-208 offer similar electric range options. Both models provided ranges of around 200-250 miles on a single charge, depending on the specific variant and battery capacity.
Design and Size: Compared to the stylish futuristic exterior, the e-208 has a more dynamic and sporty appearance. In terms of size, both cars are compact hatchbacks with similar dimensions, making them suitable for city and urban driving.
Interior and Features: The interior design and features of the Renault Zoe and Peugeot e-208 showcase different approaches. The Zoe’s interior focuses on simplicity and functionality, offering a user-friendly layout. The e-208, on the other hand, emphasises a modern and stylish cabin design with premium materials and advanced technology. Features such as infotainment systems, connectivity options, and driver assistance technologies can vary between trim levels, depending on the model you choose.
MG4
Another competitor of the Renault Zoe is the MG4. A newcomer to the electric market, the MG4 has a lot to offer. How does it compare to the Renault Zoe though?
Range: The Renault Zoe generally offers a higher electric range compared to the MG4.The MG4 had a range of around 214 – 220 miles, depending on the type of model purchased.
Design and Size: The MG4 has a more conventional hatchback design. In terms of size, the Zoe is typically smaller, making it more suitable for urban driving. As the MG4 is slightly larger, it may provide more interior space.
Performance: The MG4 offers drivers a 0 – 60 mph in around 8 seconds, and a max speed of 99mph. An MG4 owner will certainly reap the benefits of owning a nippy, quick hatchback. In comparison to the Renault Zoe, the MG4 beats it hands down with a faster 0 – 60 mph and max speed.
Interior and Features: Both the Renault Zoe and MG4 offer comfortable interiors with modern features. The specific features and technology can vary depending on the trim level and optional packages chosen. However the Renault Zoe offers a more luxurious interior than the MG4. Although both have similar centre infotainment screens, the Renault Zoe is packed full of tech in comparison to the lower budget MG4.
