While they might be cheap to run, there’s no denying the fact that brand new electric cars can be pretty expensive. However, once you start looking at used electric cars they become much more affordable.
Here are some of the cheapest used electric cars on the market right now!
1. Renault ZOE
Our favourite comes in at number one. The award-winning Renault ZOE is a practical, reliable and modern electric vehicle. Perfect for those beginning their EV journey.
If you like the idea of driving an electric car but don’t want to shout about it, the ZOE could be the car for you. It looks like any petrol or diesel small car, except for the blue bonnet badge covering its charging point.
It’s a comfortable and roomy car which can easily seat four people. Like with all electric cars, the ZOE has swift acceleration at barely a touch of the pedal. Older models are fitted with a 22kWh battery which amounts to about 100 miles of range. Whereas, more recent ones have a 41kWh battery which guarantees drivers 180 miles on a single charge.
We are lucky enough to have one Renault ZOE for sale at the moment. All of our used electric cars were previously used as fleet vehicles for our sister company, EVision Electric Vehicles.
Did you know the ZOE has won the WhatCar? Car of the Year for seven years running?! If that doesn’t sell it, then we don’t know what will. Our ZOE comes in shiny white paintwork with a modern grey interior, and it comes complete with state-of-the-art satellite navigation as well as bluetooth connectivity.
2. Nissan Leaf
As Nissan’s first electric car, the Leaf has a loyal following. Many drivers like its roomy, practical and comfortable driving experience.
Again, slightly older models are fitted with smaller batteries which equates to less range. According to Nissan, the standard Leaf’s range varies from 100 – 180 miles depending on the model. Whereas, the Leaf e+ has much better figures with a range of 239 miles.
The boot can comfortably carry a week’s worth of family shopping. However, if you need more than the 370 litres on offer, you can easily put the rear seats down.
3. BMW i3
Even though the first model came out all the way back in 2013, the i3 still manages to look futuristic. Thanks to its unique shape, rear opening back doors and funky paintwork, the i3 definitely stands out from the crowd. (This is the one to buy if you do want to shout about being an EV owner).
Inside, the i3 is up to the quality standards of any other BMW and it drives great too! With instant acceleration, the i3 is quicker than you might imagine for a little car with no engine. The original range of the i3 was around 100, but this was extended when BMW launched newer models back in 2017.
You can check out the different BMW i3 models at EVision, here! Otherwise, we have lots of different i3s available for sale on our website. The BMW i3 is by far our most popular electric car with both our customers and EVision’s.
4. Hyundai Ioniq
The Ioniq is a full size family electric car that comes in three versions. First, there’s the hybrid model which combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. Secondly is the plug-in hybrid, this can be charged to provide electric motoring but also has a petrol engine as a backup.
Finally, there’s the all-electric version! This is fitted with just an electric motor and can offer drivers up to 130 miles on a full charge. Without the petrol engine, it’s quiet around town and on the open road.
Although it costs slightly more than the Nissan Leaf, the Ioniq feels more upmarket. Plus there’s a lot of high-level technology as standard. While we do not have any Ioniq’s available at the moment, we really recommend them as great used electric cars.
5. Volkswagen e-Golf
For the ultimate understated electric experience, you’ll want the VW e-Golf. You’d struggle to tell it apart from its petrol or diesel counterpart, which is a big part of its appeal. It feels like a traditional Golf to drive too.
It’s solid, composed and steady in corners. Being an electric vehicle, it nips away from a standstill and can easily cruise at high speeds on the motorway without difficulty.
The e-Golf comes with roughly 110 – 120 miles of range once fully charged, which is more than enough for most daily driving. It’s an all-round great EV, which clearly shows how little compromise you have to make to enjoy all-electric, zero emissions motoring.
