Looking for the best EVs for sale in Kent right now? We have five fantastic models to recommend!
Switching to an electric vehicle (EV) is one of the key ways you can reduce your carbon footprint as we all look to do our bit to combat climate change. With internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles having one of the biggest impacts on emissions and pollution, switching to an EV is becoming increasingly popular.
Plus, after the UK fuel crisis in October, going electric has some clear advantages for the British public. Including not having to worry about where your next tank of petrol or diesel is coming from.
We’ve chosen five different all-electric models, taking into account size, range, design and of course, the price tag.
1. Renault ZOE
Our first pick is the competitively priced runaround, the Renault ZOE. The biggest selling point of the ZOE is its generous 52kWh battery which can deliver 245 miles of range when new. This is a brilliant amount, considering the size of this EV. Especially as Reanult have increased this dramatically since their first ZOE release.
When looking at second hand models, you can expect to have a range of roughly 100 – 150 miles. When you compare this to the brand new Honda E, which packs a range of 137 miles and would cost you at least £10k more…. Even second hand ZOEs are a great option for anyone living in a city!
We also love the fact that all Renault ZOEs have quick charging abilities. The newest ZOE GT Line only takes 6 hours to reach 80% charge when using a typical 7kW home or work wallbox. Whereas, if you’re topping up on route, you can charge the ZOE in 54 minutes using a rapid charger!
Inside the ZOE is not too dissimilar to its sister, the Renault Clio. In fact, the ZOE is one of the easiest EVs to drive as it looks and feels like a conventional car. While we love Tesla’s tech, we know it’s not within the majority of the British public’s price range!
Plus, we think EVs that feel most like conventional vehicles will be the most important for converting the public as a whole. Not everyone wants to get into a new car that feels like a spaceship! Most people want a practical, reliable and convenient vehicle that’s a little bit greener.
The interior of the Renault ZOE screams quality and there is a steady flow of updates for the car’s systems and extras, which makes the ZOE a purchase that will not disappoint.
2. BMW i3
Even though the first model came out all the way back in 2013, the i3 still manages to look futuristic. Thanks to its unique shape, rear opening back doors and funky paintwork, the i3 definitely stands out from the crowd. (This is the one to buy if you do want to shout about being an EV owner).
The original range of the i3 was around 100, but this was extended when BMW launched newer models back in 2017. Now, a new BMW i3 can travel up to 190 miles – making it the perfect city vehicle!
A BMW i3 starts at £33,000 and increases depending on the exact model. The EV itself is funky on the outside with some great stats. Coming from someone who may be slightly biased, it is one of the nicest electric vehicles to drive.
As BMW grows their all-electric fleet, second hand models of the i3 will become a great purchase. Especially for those looking for their first EV! We have more second hand BMW i3s coming very soon…
3. Volkswagen ID.3
All models in Volkswagen’s ID. family have the style of Teslas. The German manufacturer certainly hit the nail on the head with the ID.3. It’s a mid-sized family hatchback with a fantastic design and styling.
The range on the ID.3 Family model is roughly 260 miles, whereas the ID.3 Tour model maxes out at 336 miles. Being a bigger vehicle, the Volkswagen ID.3 does take quite a lot longer to charge than the Renault ZOE or BMW i3. If you’re using a 7kW home charger, it will take you 13 hours to reach 100%, but this is dropped to 50 minutes when using a public rapid charger.
However, this is made up for in tech! Inside there’s a 10-inch touchscreen that controls the majority of the car. If we were to describe this vehicle in just three words, they would have to be futuristic, comfortable and convenient. Volkswagen has really got this EV right and it definitely stands out from the crowd!
Unfortunately, we do not have any ID.3 models on our sales fleet right now (but watch this space). However, our sister company, EVision Electric Vehicles, do have some you can try out! EVision is a brilliant EV rental company, where you can choose to hire an electric vehicle on your own terms. They make sure to remain super flexible, so you can hire a Volkswagen ID.3 for a day or for three years!
4. Kia EV6
The much-anticipated Kia EV6 will be the second all-electric model from the manufacturer, with the Kia e-Niro being a huge success. This time Kia has opted for a sporter, modern EV with great specs.
Fitted with a 77.2kWh battery, the EV6 can travel up to 328 miles on a full charge. This is much more than the already fantastic 282 miles the e-Niro provides. A bigger battery also means more power! The 0-60mph stats do depend on the exact model you choose, but the speediest is the Kia EV6 GT AWD which only takes 3.5 seconds. To put that into context, that’s only 0.2 seconds slower than a Porsche Taycan Turbo!!!
Even the charging capabilities are brilliant on this vehicle. Compared to the Volkswagen ID.3, which is most definitely a smaller vehicle, the EV6 only takes 11 hours to charge using a 7kW wallbox. That’s cut to an hour when using a rapid charger on the motorway and thanks to the EV6’s 800 V high-speed charging, that’s not even the best stat! You can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. With this charging power, you can get 62 miles of range in four minutes. (That’s actually more range than the teeny Citroen Ami provides altogether!)
What else could you possibly ask for in an electric vehicle?! We’ve been so excited for the EV6 since it was announced! What’s more is our sister company, EVision Electric Vehicles, is due to add the EV6 to their all-electric fleet, meaning you can try before you buy!
Speaking of buying a Kia EV6, the prices start from £40,945. Yes, we know that is A LOT of money. But we really think the EV6 is worth every penny! It is by far one of the best EVs for sale in Kent right now!
5. Tesla Model S
Tesla really does set the benchmark for the premium EV experience. Being one of the leading EV manufacturers, the demand for a Tesla has skyrocketed, and so has the price… A brand new Model S will set you back at least £90,000!
Of course, you’re getting a lot for your money! A standard Model S provides drivers with 405 miles of range, 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and a max speed of 155mph. Whereas in a Model S Plaid you can expect 396 miles of range, 0-60mph in a minimal 1.99 seconds and a top speed of 200mph. (We’re not advising reaching these max speeds, they’re just very impressive!)
Possibly the most exciting thing about owning a Tesla model has to be the range of technology included! Tesla has always been ahead of the curve, and now they’re really top dogs. There isn’t any tech that can match what’s found inside a Tesla.
If you’re not keen on splashing out near to £100k on an EV – and we don’t blame you! A second hand Tesla Model S is a great alternative. You can find some older models for under £30,000, which is much more affordable for most people. Plus it puts a Tesla in the same price bracket as all the other EVs on our list!
At the moment, we have a range of used Tesla models available, including the Model S 85+. All of our second hand models are quality assured vehicles with only one previous keeper! We also provide customers with a one month warranty for your own peace of mind and we offer UK home delivery.
