bmw i3 electric car

Electric vehicles used to be expensive to purchase, or so people thought. As more and more individuals take to the idea of driving electric, the market is expanding, and more people are upgrading their cars. This is where we come in! EV Sales is a local company specialising in the sale of second hand electric cars. A popular brand of EV in the industry is BMW.

If you’re looking to buy a BMW i3, then find out why you’ll be making a fantastic investment.

History of BMW

BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) was founded in 1917 in Munich. Since the beginning, BMW have always been very well known for the production of sports cars and larger luxury cars. Their aim is to “offer inspiring premium products for individual mobility”. This is clearly at the forefront of their mind, as the transport market sees constant releases of fantastic vehicles from the German manufacturer.

The electric journey didn’t start until 2013 when the classic and highly recognisable BMW i3 was released. The BMW i3 was also the first car to be mass produced with an exterior made mainly from carbon-fibre. When you drive around in the i3, you’ll be impressed knowing the bodywork will be made of a material that is stronger than steel.

With the help of product innovation and market research, we have seen some electrifying entries from BMW. Since the original BMW i3 Improving the original design of the BMW i3, the BMW i8 was released in 2014. The BMW i3 Range Extender (REX) was then produced in 2017, both of which are hybrid vehicles.

Now we are anxiously anticipating the release of the brand new BMW iX3 in 2021. We can’t wait to see what’s in store!

Why choose a BMW i3?

The BMW i3 was designed from the start to be an electric car. The Vauxhall Corsa-e is a classic example of a combustion-engined model that was developed into an electric version. After several years of being on the market, the BMW i3 still looks futuristic, and catches the eyes of passer-bys.

Battery

When you buy any vehicle from EV Sales the batteries will come with the vehicle. BMW didn’t offer battery leasing with the i3, so it’s one less thing for you to think about. Batteries are predicted to last between at least 10 – 20 years, depending on how the driver uses it. Our vehicles are no more than 5 years old, and the batteries still have plenty of life in them!

Range

Driving a car that has been structured using carbon fibre will mean that the overall weight is decreased significantly, in turn increasing the mile range of the vehicle.

The battery capacity has changed drastically since the original launch of the vehicle in 2013. The first model was initially made with a 22kWh battery, that was capable of around 80 – 100 miles on a full charge. In July 2016, a larger 33kWh battery was used to increase the range of the vehicle.

Interior

Every version of the BMW i3 was released with cruise control, 19 inch alloy wheels, climate control, DAB radio, a sat nav and heated front seats. All the luxuries any driver will need!

When it comes to the interior of our BMW i3s for sale, they are fitted with grey fabric material.

We would like to point out that they are counted as a 4 seater car, as there is no rear middle seat. This could be a deal breaker if you’re looking for a family car. However, if you use your back seats to chuck your handbag on, or an overflow for shopping trips, we would highly recommend the BMW i3!

Running costs

As with any mode of transport there will be maintenance costs. Like any conventional car it will need brake pads changed when required, and coolant topped up. When you buy a BMW i3 that has less moving parts in comparison to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, you’ll have less parts to replace.
