Will 2021 be the year for electric vehicles? Only time will tell. Until then we take a look at the most popular, and upcoming cars to the EV market.
Currently, we’ve heard fantastic news about the increase in charging infrastructure, so what about the cars? There is plenty of choice so far when it comes to electric vehicles in our opinion. However, main manufacturers such as Ford, Volkswagen and BMW just to name a few, are beginning to roll out more battery powered cars. We think they are going to be very in demand this year. If 2021 is the year you make the switch to electric, and buy an EV, then you’ve also come to the right place, as we may have the vehicle for you!
BMW I4
BMW is already well known in the EV world for the BMW i3. Since 2013 when the BMW i3 first emerged on the market, the desire to explore hasn’t changed for BMW. The BMW i4 is the latest vehicle due in 2021 from the german manufacturer. It is based on the BMW 3 series sedan, currently on the market.
It is believed that the BMW i4 will have a range of around 270 miles depending on how it is driven, more than 500 horsepower and a 0-60-mph time of 4.0 seconds. We can’t wait to test this once it has been released.
Interior
Similar to other electric vehicles from BMW, the i4 has also been designed with a simplistic, stylish and futuristic interior. From the concept version we can see that a gold-bronze colour, and chrome surfaces have been used throughout the vehicle. The modern, yet luxurious interior also features glass crystal controls. How fancy!
The curved display and the toggled gear selector are just two stand-out features for us. The overall interior design has clearly been carefully crafted with precision in mind.
Exterior
The BMW i4 has also been designed with a large noticeable grille on the front, as well as two freestanding elements on the side. You’ll recognise the BMW i4 from any other electric vehicle on the market.
FORD MUSTANG MACH-E
The combustion engine counterpart of the Ford Mustang Mach-e is a popular contender for most car enthusiasts, so how will the electric version top it? The Mustang is a sporty car, and is very well known for its loud engine so we can’t wait to see what you all think of the pure electric Mustang.
Ford has taken the iconic sports coupe and reinvented it in ways we couldn’t even imagine.
Interior
It was key to Ford to get across a luxurious and deluxe design, to satisfy all of the original Mustang lovers. Not only have they managed that, they have also got the point across, that it is actually in fact a worthy contender to be a family car too!
As most electric vehicles have been designed with a touch screen panel, it is nice to see a decent size screen in the Ford. The 15.5” touch screen will enable the driver to easily select different options. Drivers will also be able to make use of the 402 litre boot, as well as a 100 litre “frunk”, which will add additional storage space if required. Will the Ford Mustang Mach-e be a car to rival models from the Tesla range?
Exterior
18” alloy wheels and the signature mustang lights will be the first thing you see. It only gets better from here. The basic model will be equipped with a 68 kWh battery. This will allow the driver to charge the battery from 10 – 80% in just 38 minutes.
The OTR (on the road) price of a brand new Ford Mustang Mach-e will set you back around £40,000. Will you be buying one in the coming months when it is released?
If you’re looking for a car that will turn heads instantly, you’ll be onto a winner with the Ford Mustang Mach-e.
POLESTAR 2
We are very excited about the Polestar 2 release. Our sister company, EVision Electric Vehicle Hire will be adding this particular car to their hire fleet. What makes it such a great EV though?
Well for a start, not only will it be quick to become a popular EV on the market, it is also a very nippy vehicle. With a 0 – 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds, and an average mile range of 265, this vehicle has definitely pulled out all of the stops.
Interior
Despite Polestar being owned by big brand name Volvo, the Polestar 2 has a bespoke design, and is a breath of fresh air to look at. With a sleek, polish interior, it is guaranteed to capture the attention of anyone passing by.
The 11” touch screen found in the centre of the vehicle, is in the perfect eyeline position for drivers. It is also the first car that has used Google OS. Drivers will be able to sign into their google account to personalise their settings, as well as make the most of the ‘Hey Google’ Assistant.
The perfectly placed gear selector will also act as a rest for your forearm. Steadying your hand whilst driving, if you need to adjust something on the touchscreen.
Exterior
The Polestar 2 is a performance saloon featuring a 78kWh battery. It has also been made with dual electric motors.
This particular EV has been carefully designed to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The side mirrors are a perfect example of this. The designers have taken away the frame, to remove any unnecessary elements.
The panoramic glass roof has also been included in the design of the EV. It will give the interior a feeling of spaciousness, whilst also reducing glare and UV radiation. We can’t wait to see a Polestar 2 when it is released!
We can expect to see the Polestar 2 on our roads from as early as March this year.
